Today’s featured artist is Jamie Chiarello. She can be found painting from observation on Jackson Square in the New Orleans’ French Quarter. Her work is informed by structures of classicism yet maintains a distinct contemporary mood.

“Jamie Chiarello was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1985. After a brief stint in NYC she moved to New Orleans in 2004.

Self-taught in a traditional sense (not having attended college,) she has studied classical painting approaches on her own as well as in workshops with contemporary artists.

Over years of steadily painting & drawing she continues to explore the duality between imagination and observation.

Her work is classically inspired with a strong emphasis on the figure and mark-making.”
