About Us:

Saskia Ozols founded the Fine Arts Preservation Society of New Orleans in 2020. A response to mass closures of university art departments nationwide & the related effect on education, the arts community and artists; the society seeks to provide opportunities for artists to grow and maintain practice.

We are a group of art enthusiasts devoted to the preservation, promotion, and practice of the visual arts in New Orleans.

Few cities have played as significant a role in the history of American culture as New Orleans, which has long been home to one of the nation’s most diverse cultural communities. The threat of loss to traditional visual languages is severe, and without a library for future reference visual culture is at risk of losing its history regarding practice.

Archiving, practicing, and promoting techniques associated with the history of visual expression, we invite participation from diverse cultural backgrounds for engagement with and enrichment of the community.

We are grateful for friends who have been willing to share studio space for classes, for artists willing to share what they have learned in  specialized seminars and master classes, and for an environment open to exploring the relationship of contemporary art with history.

Saskia Ozols is a painter, independent curator, and arts writer who has taught historical painting and drawing techniques for over 20 years. More information about Saskia’s work and background may be found here:
