FIGURE PAINTING
Please join us this Spring for a six week exploration of figure painting. Why do artists paint the figure? This studio course explores the relationship between studio practice and art history. Sign up for one day or all 6 class meetings. Each class meeting is three hours in length. The course begins with a slide presentation/lecture on the human figure in the history of art. The presentation examines the figure as a vehicle for expression in diverse works including the Caves of Lascaux, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Diebenkorn and more.
A study with roots in antiquity; this exploration of the human form and its anatomical structure, proportion, morphology, gesture, and potential for expression will always challenge and inspire. This session focuses on painting the live model from direct observation. Accompanying studies from anatomical reference materials will occur in conjunction with studio work.
