Samworth depicts the fear and wonder of the natural world in her highly detailed drawings of imaginary places. She explores the spiritual questions and existential anxiety raised by observing nature and a rapidly changing environment. Her background in printmaking and illustration are evident in her scratchboard engravings, in which each mark is made with precision.
Samworth grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC and was part of a politically active community of artists and musicians. She is represented by Le Mieux Gallery in New Orleans, has illustrated several books, and been published in magazines including Orion, Southern Review, High Country News, and World Watch.
She studied painting at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art, earned a BFA from the PA Academy of the Fine Arts, and teaches online courses through RISD, the Peabody Museum of Natural History, and elsewhere.
